System fine-tunes spray applications
A NEW system to help fine-tune herbicide applications has been developed by Dutch organisation Plant Research International.
Its Minimum Lethal Herbicide Dose (MLHD) technique involves a photo-sensor which tests to see whether weeds have succumbed to a previously assessed minimum dose treatment within two days of application – before any effects can be seen with the naked eye.
The Wageningen researchers say the MLHD system means growers run less risk that an insufficient dose will lead to problems later on, and can decide on the need for a repeat treatment sooner. *
