Tax could curb rural development

THE governments urban task force is expected to recommend a tax to curb development in the countryside.

Lord Richard Rogers task force is also likely to recommend tax breaks for developers to encourage building on recycled land.

The soon-to-be-released National Land Use Database finds that almost 52,611ha (130,000 acres) are idle in the England – enough to build 2.5m homes.
