TB – the long wait

FARMERS in Glos had to wait an average of 53 days to have TB infected reactors removed from their farms during the past 12 months, according to government figures.

A written parliamentary answer revealed it took an average of seven weeks to slaughter animals in the county after they had tested positively as reactors. The figures cover the period June 2001 to June 2002.

Farmers in other areas did have to wait longer than this, but this was down foot-and-mouth restrictions introduced last year. The longest a farmer waited was in Devon, where 320 days passed before the animal was removed from the farm. &#42
