Tea helps lift Linton Park profits 62%

LINTON PARK reported pre-tax profits for 1997 up from £10.9 million to £17.8m on sales up from £169.9m to £185m.

The increases at the agricultural and engineering group was attributed to higher tea prices in Kenya and Malawi in the second half after a drought at the beginning of the year.

Malcom Perkins, chairman, said tea had accounted for up to half the operating profits.
