Tenant farmers prepare to challenge farmland sell-off
TENANT farmers are planning a legal challenge to prevent North Yorkshire county council from selling its 4,451.7ha (11,000 acres) farm estate.
The council wants to offload its farmland in a bid to raise millions of pounds to pay off debts and fund services.
They hope to apply for a judicial review once they have consulted solicitors.
Concern is growing that other counties will follow suit in what could be a
huge national land sale.
