Tentative start in Hants and Dorset
HARVEST has started tentatively in Hampshire and Dorset.
John Arnold, of Robin Appel merchants says that the recent wet weather has slowed the ripening of the grains and farmers are trying to avoid drying costs.
The main malting winter barleys cut have been Pearl and Maris Otter. The quality has been good so far.
Nitrogen levels are low and there are no screening problems. “The barley is within specification.”
