Auctioneer Brian Ross searches for that bid; top quality in-lamb Texel ewes were keenly sought, he says.

Ringsiders discuss breeding stock from the two flocks; all the Blasonburie flock was up for grabs, while only a few ewes from the Winterhill flock were available.

Below: Contemplating a bid at ringside are Eddy Urquhart (left) and David Fleming from Heriot.

One ewe sees a gap. Next thing shes made a bolt for it, but alas she would have fell at the first.

Ewes from the Blasonburie flock are kept in the dark before sale. Top price of Ian Dykes flock was 220gns for a twin-born ewe, while the 80 ewes averaged £93.

A Winterhill ewe eyes up the crowd. owner Fiona Sloan sold six ewes averaging £318, with a top of 500gns.

Young Keiran Johnston, alongside his grandfather William Johnston from Dumfries, is transfixed by the auctioneers every move.
