Texels reach 12,000gns at joint event

PRICES reached 12,000gns when a joint sale of females was staged from three top Scottish Texel flocks at Lanark last weekend.

Highest bid was for a gimmer shearling from Keith Jamiesons Annan flock. It was paid by Notts breeder R W Hudson, no newcomer to making a foray to Lanark market to claim the choicest on offer.

His pick was an Annan Born Free shearling served by Craighead Dynamite which made the top price of 26,000gns at this venue in August.

Flock at Dumfries

Best bid for one from Mrs Margaret Hopes Kirtle flock at Dumfries was 4200gns. This came from Keith Jamieson for a two-crop ewe sired by Annan 101 and in-lamb to Dynamite.

Another from the same home made 4000gns when Messrs Cullen of the noted Craighead flock bought a Tophill By Design sired gimmer shearling also in-lamb to Dynamite.

A one-crop ewe carrying Dynamite lambs from Kirtle made 3600gns to Gordon Gray, Selkirk.

The Mairs of Muiresk offered the major portion of their gimmer shearling crop. Best price was 2800gns given by Brian King, Ballymena for a Baltier Winston daughter in-lamb to Glenside Drum Major.

AVERAGES: Kirtle – 79 head £1190; Annan – 59 head £987; Muiresk – 59 head £980. (Lawrie and Symington)
