TFA welcomes rent freeze
By FWi staff
THE Tenant Farmers Association has welcomed a decision by the Hereford & Worcester County Council to freeze farm rents for at least another 12 months.
TFA chairman Mr Reg Haydon said the council had decided to defer a rate increase because of the steep fall in farm incomes in all sectors, brought about by the overall strength of the Sterling, green pound revaluations and the knock-on effects of the BSE crisis.
“The TFA is encouraged that a major landlord like the Hereford & Worcester County Council, which currently lets over 11,000 acres to 270 tenants, is taking a responsible attitude in the difficult times which we are facing,” he said.
Mr Haydon said he welcomed Hereford & Worcesters decision and hoped that more councils follow their example and freeze rates or lower them.
