Top PIN herd tops 3150gns
THE highest-indexing herd of Holstein Friesians ever dispersed in the UK came under the hammer at Bretton, Chester, last week.
Top price was 3150gns at this event which saw Andrew and Peter Chadwick offer a major portion of their Kynarton herd.
The herds average cow PIN index is £60 and £82 for the served heifers and youngstock.
And it was a heifer that calved in mid-May that made the top price given by C * Shropshire, Market Drayton. He paid 3150gns for the Etazon Jimtown daughter Kynarton Jimtown Cedilla bred out of a 11,800kg dam by Sunny Boy. The heifer was giving 37.8kg on the day and had a PIN of £89.
A half-sister by Bis-May SEL Mountain that had given 9300kg made 4000gns to Herbert Jones Chester while Alan Swale claimed Kynarton Leadman Laburnam, a November calved heifer, for his Joylan herd at 3000gns.
Mr Shropshire was in again at 3000gns to take the served heifer Kynarton Dombinator November (PIN £84) and at the same price Roxholme Estates, Sleaford, Lincs, secured a Celsius daughter with a PIN value of £100.
The Nantwich-based Airways herd of Richard Ratcliffe invested 2800gns in Kynarton Hodges Hydrangea, a heifer that had given 12,360kg with her first and was due again to Hill-A-Way Astar Granite. She has a PIN value of £87 and is out of a 11,300kg dam by Kashome Bell Jurist.
Mr Ratcliffe also took her yearling heifer calf by Labelle – PIN £108 – at 1100gns and paid the joint top price for a maiden heifer with a 1350gns call for a Fatal heifer out of a Sunny Boy cow. This heifer, from the Dulcima family, had the highest PIN in the sale at £111. Holywell, Flintshire bidder D C Davies paid 1350gns for a Celsius maiden heifer.
