Tory hits at ‘feeble’ Brown
“FEEBLE” is how Conservative agriculture spokesman Tim Yeo describes agriculture minister Nick Browns performance fighting for British farmers.
Mr Yeo says Mr Brown should be going to the European Court in a bid to ban imports produced in conditions illegal in Britain.
In an interview with Radio 4s Farming Today Mr Yeo said: “Were astonished that Nick Brown wont even try this route.
“If he lost a battle in the court we wouldnt blame him for that, nor I think would farmers, but he wont even try because hes so fearful of upsetting European friends.
“When we see what the French are doing to our beef farmers, Im astonished at how feeble hes being.”
Mr Yeo believes seeking such a ban is possible without breaking European law.
It is one of three Conservative pledges in a bid to win back rural votes.
The others are honesty in packaging and a pledge on regulation to lift the beef-on-the-bone ban.
The Conservatives are set to hold an agriculture debate this afternoon at their Blackpool party conference.
