Treat unsprayed rape crops now
UNSPRAYED winter rape crops with high levels of phoma leaf spotting are well worth treating in early December, rather than waiting until early spring, says NIABs Jane Thomas.
Plots in the farmers weekly/ DuPont Phoma Focus show infection is still occurring in some areas.
But treated crops are unlikely to benefit from a pre-Christmas re-spray, even where the remains of lower leaf infections are still visible, advises Dr Thomas. "There is little new infection coming in on upper leaves."
No light leaf spot has yet been detected at any of the Focus sites in Notts, Gwent, Cambs, Hants and Kent. *
