UK attacks Brussels on Lomé proposals
THE House of Commons International Development committee attacked European Commission proposals to turn the Lomé convention of 71 developing countries into a free trade area.
It said African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) nations could not withstand the competition and their public finances would crack if they let European Union goods in duty free.
Foreign ministers are due to meet next Monday to discuss trade aspects of the Commissions bargaining mandate for the opening of formal talks in September.
