UK four clear first hurdle for EU aid
FOUR UK regions have cleared the first hurdle to qualify for massive European Union (EU) aid.
Cornwall, west Wales, inner London and the Scottish Highlands have qualified as regions in their own right, enabling them to bid for funds made available to assist Europes most deprived areas.
They claim they are separated from more prosperous neighbours and that they should qualify for Objective 1 funding – which has an EU budget of £120 billion. All four have suffered long-term decline of traditional industries, including farming.
