Ulster is ready for EU report
NORTHERN Irelands beef producers, processors and packers are preparing to welcome an EU inspection team which will compile a report on the provinces readiness to begin exporting beef.
The EU team has organised a fast-moving tour of processing plants, farms and Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland administration sites and is expected to arrive in Belfast on Monday (Apr 20).
A DANI spokesman said about 75% of the provinces 30,000 herds met the EU requirements for the certified herd scheme, which was approved in Brussels last month. Three processing plants had indicated that they would like to be involved in exporting beef, he added.
