University fixes focus on uplands

BANGOR University is developing its 203ha (500 acre) Henfaes Farm as a centre for hill and upland management, where commercial farming is integrated with the best care of the environment.

British Grassland Society visitors to the universitys school of agriculture and forestry sciences were told how involvement in the Tir Gofal agri-environment scheme was dictating the way land and 1200 Welsh Mountain ewes were managed.

Other research projects included work on the possible impact on grassland of a predicted 20 to 30% fall in rainfall.
