US food agency ‘hid GM disquiet’
THE US governments Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been accused of suppressing warnings from its own scientists about genetically modified (GM) food.
These are alleged to have said that GM products could pose unforeseen health threats and therefore required special testing.
Environmental lobbyists Alliance for Bio-Integrity made the accusation at a public hearing in Washington held by the FDA.
The lobbyists used evidence from internal FDA memoranda to support its contention.
