Weather worries persist
BARRY HOWARD, of Framlingham Farmers, predicts that virtually all the crop of winter barley in Suffolk, Essex and South Norfolk has been combined.
But with the recent wet weather there are concerns that there may be damage to the quality of crops.
Pearl and Regina are still doing well, but quality is more varied, “the nitrogen is all over the place.” Oilseed rape yields are down on average.
With rain since before the weekend, there are concerns, especially with wheat crops near ready.
“Farmers are a bit nervous on Hagbergs, but Im less concerned as many of the crops were not quite fit. We are slightly behind schedule. My concern is the long-range weather forecast.
