Welsh aid shame

THE decision by the Welsh Assembly not to use available EU funds to help new entrants is shameful, says Plaid Cymru.

Elfed Williams, Plaids prospective parliamentary candidate in Clwyd West, said the Assembly should have been prepared to match fund the £16,500 for each new entrant being offered by Brussels, and to make provisions for older farmers to retire.

"Recent statistical data released by the national assembly shows that about 66% of principle farmers in Wales are over 50 and only 2% are under 30," said Mr Williams. "If this trend continues rural communities will disappear with the younger generation migrating to towns and cities to find work." &#42
