Welsh would-be investor group takes stock of City
WELSH farmers travelled to the heart of London on a fact-finding mission about the money markets recently.
The 22-strong group, who plan to form a low-budget investment club, grabbed the chance of a bargain-basement flight deal to make the one-day trip to the capital.
They had a whistle-stop tour of the Citys financial institutions – including the Stock Exchange and the Bank of England – before heading back to the Conwy Valley late at night.
The group now hope to form a stocks and shares investment club, Clwb y Tarw Garw, which translates as the Astute Bull Club.
As one says: "Even though farmers havent much spare cash to invest at the moment, the idea of making a profit from stocks and shares is very appealing – especially since you dont have to feed or muck out these stocks."
According to trip organiser, CWYSIs Meinir Evans, it gave those taking part a break from their agricultural worries and, hopefully, showed there are opportunities to make a "bob or two" in the financial markets.
"The perception is that it is something that happens in London with big businessmen. But it neednt be like that."
The group ended proceedings in London with a meal at Smithfield. And the main course? Welsh Black beef, of course.
