Winter show

PRIMESTOCK producers will be able to exhibit at a national show in Smithfield market next December with news that the Royal Smithfield Club is initiating an annual carcass and meat competition and exhibition.

Announcing the move at last weeks Smithfield Winter Fair prize-giving at Dawkins Abattoir, Nuneaton, club chairman Donald Biggar said it reflected the wider role that the club would be playing in years to come.

"We are aware of the changing needs for displaying meat, requirements for a different approach to carcass exhibitions and the demand to reflect current commercial practice in meat production.

"Next year we will change our approach at Earls Court, replacing the carcass hall with a more focused demonstration on producing meat for the current retail market."
