Winter wheat planning tool

A NOVEL interactive winter wheat planning tool was launched at Cereals 2002.

It is designed to help growers make the most of market and rotation opportunities in the coming season.

CD ROM-based Maris Selector uses performance data for Monsantos winter wheat varieties Consort, Hereward, Charger, Napier and Option to assess the absolute and relative suitability of each variety for specific end-markets and agronomic regimes.

Suitability for early, conventional and late drilling slots and conventional and reduced tillage regimes can be compared. In-depth assessments and comparisons can then be made on a range of important characters, including yield, quality, disease resistance, establishment vigour, agronomy and harvest management.

"The Maris Selector puts all the variety information growers and advisers need to really make the most of their 2002/3 winter wheat-growing opportunities at their fingertips in the most accessible and usable way," says Monsanto agronomy systems manager Karen Lonergan.

"It also features a winter oilseed rape section, providing similarly comprehensive data on our conventional and hybrid varieties, Canberra and Cohort." &#42
