WTO chief-to-be wants tariff cuts
SUPACHAI PANITCHPAKDI, the director-general in waiting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has called on developed countries to cut their farm tariffs.
He told a meeting in Bangkok that quotas should be expanded and quota management guidelines should be improved to make trading more transparent.
Mr Panitchpakdi will become DG of the WTO in September 2002 when Michael Moore of New Zealand will stand down.
