Zookeeper to head Countryside Alliance
By FWi staff
RICHARD Burge, the former director general of the London Zoological Society, has been named as the new chief executive of the Countryside Alliance.
Mr Burge, who secured the future of London Zoo after it was threatened with closure in 1995, will take up his new appointment on 1 February next year.
“It is a great privilege to be asked to lead this major campaigning organisation,” he said today.
“The alliance will be at the forefront of addressing the problems of rural life, its culture and its economy.”
Mr Burges appointment comes four months after the resignation of chief executive Edward Duke.
Mr Duke quit after alliance members criticised his management style, big salary package and expensive company car.
