Anglia Free-Range Eggs strikes deal with Amazon

Six-year-old firm Anglia Free Range Eggs has struck a deal with internet giant Amazon to supply eggs through its new online grocery delivery service.

Set up in 2010, the company – which has been supplying Tesco for the past four years – has been selected to supply a full range of eggs under the Amazon own-label Love Free range.

Clair Bullen, Anglia Free Range Eggs sales manager, said the deal was a very exciting opportunity for the business. “We are incredibly proud to be part of Amazon’s launch. They chose us and have worked very closely with us.

Amazon announced last week that it would offer its Prime members same-day deliveries on a range of 130,000 fresh and frozen grocery items. Amazon Fresh is initially being launched in 69 postcodes across central and east London.

“They are very keen to provide a premium offer to their customers which has high welfare standards. They were very clear that they wanted Lion eggs and Freedom Food-assured standards. For us, as a relatively small and new business, the deal is a huge compliment.

“It is a natural link-up for us. They are starting up from a small base and are growing and we hope to growth with them,” she added.

Commenting on the current Tesco deal, Ms Bullen said: “Tesco is another customer that is right for us. We need to expand our customer base and we are not an exclusive packer,” she told Poultry World.

Anglia Free Range Eggs has 30 farms with 600,000 hens across East Anglia, Wales and Lincolnshire. All of its eggs are audited by the Lion Code and are RSPCA assured. The firm has a state-of-the-art packing centre at Attleborough.

The eggs are being marketed by Amazon with a freshness guarantee of 7+ days  and as being rich in protein, low in saturated fat and containing vitamins A, D, B2 and B12. Prices are compatible with major multiples.

Amazon Fresh’s deliveries will be serviced from a warehouse in Bow, east London. Ajay Kavan, vice-president of Amazon Fresh, said: “We are launching with a comprehensive offer in a limited area and will take our time to hone and improve our service based on our learnings and feedback from our customers.”

Amazon Fresh will be available to Prime members – who already pay an annual £79 fee – for an additional £6.99 monthly fee which entitles them to unlimited orders a month above £40 for free.
