Dangerous chemicals stolen from farm

Police in Lincolnshire have issued a security alert after a van containing toxic chemicals used for cleaning poultry sheds was stolen.

The white Ford Transit pick-up had been left briefly unattended as work was due to begin at a poultry unit situated in the village of North Scarle.

According to Lincolnshire police the chemicals in the vehicle include 20 litres of Virofog disinfectant, which contains formaldehyde, and 80 litres of Vira Shield, which contains glutaraldehyde and benzalkonium chloride.

Police have warned that these chemicals could be dangerous or even fatal if they fell into the hands of children or vulnerable members of the public.

They could also also be a hazard to the environment if they are not disposed of correctly.“Vehicles containing chemicals such as these should never be left unattended,” said a Lincolnshire police spokesman. “Anyone who has any information as to the whereabouts of the chemicals or the van should contact us immediately.”
