One shouldn’t criticise people too strongly for getting excited by the Diamond Jubilee – it is, after all, a once in a lifetime experience.
But I can’t help thinking the Traditional Farm Fresh Turkey Association is getting a little carried away, judging by the tone of its latest Press Release.
“Down on the farm, turkey producers are getting ready for their new arrivals,” it enthuses. “The turkey chicks will be making an appearance over the next few weeks and will be frolicking around in the rich grasslands of the TFTA farms, living the life of riley and basking in the glorious sunshine.
“Whilst we celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, we should point out that these turkeys are the princes, nay, the kings of birds, treated with the love and respect they deserve.”
That’s as may be, but like so many kings and princes over the course of history, it seems they will still end up with their heads chopped off.
“The sun may be shining, but we’ve been thinking of Christmas,” says the TFTA, somewhat menacingly. While the turkeys get ready to frolick, the TFTA has produced six new recipes for Christmas, including a turkey risotto, turkey quesadilla and “mouth-watering” turkey bubble and squeak cakes.
