Integrated egg giant Avangardco has reported an 18% leap in its laying flock, which now totals about 27 million birds, it has reported in full-year results.
The Ukrainian firm said the increase was down to two new poultry complexes, “Avis” and “Chornobaivske” gearing towards full production and now holding 34% of the group’s laying hen population.
As a result, total egg production was up 12% in the year to December 2013, but sales to third parties fell back by 2% when compared with the previous period.
This was to focus more on intergroup sales, said Avangardco. The company’s volume of shell egg processing almost doubled, more than mopping up the drop in sales – 1,864m eggs went to the new Imperovo Foods facility, “one of the most technologically advanced facilities for processing eggs in Europe”.
Fresh shell egg sold to the domestic market made up 33% of the total output, increasingly under the “Kvochka” name – a sign that branding is becoming more important to Ukrainian consumers.
Exports of shell and dry egg took a second 30% slice of output, with the Middle East, North Africa, Central and West Africa and Commonwealth of Independent States’ members taking the majority.
Despite expansion in output, the average sale value of dry and fresh egg has dropped, the former falling 6% due to increased volumes sold, according to the firm, and the latter by 1%, year-on-year.
