When is a broiler a layer?

It’s always dangerous to point out other people’s mistakes, especially when there may well be a plank lurking in one’s own eye. (Have you see p36 of this month’s Poultry World?)

But the ever-observant Forager couldn’t help but notice the error in the recent Countryfile feature comparing Freedom Food and Red Tractor standards.

The program correctly pointed out that, when it comes to broiler shed stocking densities, Red Tractor allows 19 birds per square metre, whereas Freedom Food allows just 15.Red Tractor

But as the graphic flicked across the screen to make the point, the Forager couldn’t help but notice they were layers, not broilers.

Well, at least they weren’t turkeys….
