Welcome to Grassland 2002, Europes biggest exhibition of working grassland machinery.
Taking place on Wed May 22 and Thurs May 23 at Crewe Farm, National Agricultural
Centre, Stoneleigh, Warks, theres a lot more there than just grass and machinery
Grass machinery
There are 70ha (170 acres) of grass to mow, ted, chop, clamp, bale or wrap. All the main grass machinery firms are here and most have new equipment that hasnt been seen before. Dont forget the two clamp areas where you can see handling equipment in action. Its not all giant self-propelled foragers and big square balers the size of a barn, though. Almost all makers also offer equipment for the small-to-medium-sized farmer as well as their top-of-the-range kit. See main site.
Fodder crops
Although the main focus will be grass, you will also be able to see maize, fodder beet, kale, lucerne, sainfoin, red clover and whole crop mixes being grown and pick up advice on production and usage.

Muck machinery
Last years cancellation of the Muck Event means that farmers and contractors havent had a chance to see new muck and slurry equipment in action in public for nearly two years. Grassland 2002 is putting that right with muckspreaders, slurry tankers, and handling equipment from 12 different makers. See Muck Demonstration Area.
Organic advice
Pick up advice and see crops of organically-grown grass, red clover and sainfoin. See Demonstration Plots.
Technical seminars
Technical and business seminars will be held on both days. These will cover subjects like living with NVZs, grasses and clovers for better N utilisation, Integrated Farm Management for grass farmers, managing fertility in grass-fed cows and profiting from e-commerce. Seminars take place at stand 504A on east side of Trade Area and Demon-stration Plots. See page 53 and 54 for more details of topics being covered.
Trade stands
There will be more than 140 trade stands at this years Grassland event, including ones from equipment makers, plant breeders, fertiliser manufacturers, advisory and research organisations and environmental bodies. See Trade Area.
Competition
Dont forget to enter the official Grassland 2002 competition. Organised by Kemira Agriculture, farmers weekly and the RASE, it offers a chance to win one of three valuable prizes – a £3725 Amazone ZA-M fertiliser spreader, 25t of a Kemira after-cut fertiliser worth £3000 and a whole-farm fertiliser plan worth £2000. You can enter the competition on the Kemira stand (320).
Dairy, beef and sheep
Grassland 2002 isnt just aimed at dairy farms, say the
organisers. Theres a lot to interest sheep and beef producers, especially grass variety information and the technical seminars.
Where Crewe Farm, Stoneleigh, Warks. The site is close to the M1, M40, M42, M45, M6 and M69 motorways. There is ample free parking on site. Coventry and Leamington/Warwick Parkway stations are both about 5 miles from Stoneleigh, with a taxi service available.
