Mount View is set in an elevated position, on one of the most sought-after roads in Beer, in the centre of the village. Beer is a picturesque ancient fishing village with beautiful coastal walks; its fascinating past includes lacemaking and Beer stone. The village nestles in a narrow valley that opens out into a natural bay, sheltered by towering Beer Head. Its name is not derived from the drink, but from the old Anglo Saxon word “bearu”, meaning grove, which referred to the forest that surrounded the settlement. Beer’s long fishing heritage is still very much alive today, with a colourful population of fishing boats, fresh fish and Beer crab for sale. It was also famous for fine lace, including the lace flounce for Queen Victoria’s wedding dress crafted in Beer by Miss Jane Bidney and her team of 200 workers. Beer’s pleasant flint-studded buildings include interesting shops, galleries and excellent places to eat.

There is a good choice of well-regarded schools in the local area for boys and girls of all ages including the much-acclaimed Colyton Grammar School, approximately 2.7 miles away. Other well-known schools in the area include Chard Independent Preparatory School, Taunton School, Kings College, Queen’s College and King’s Hall, Exeter School, Millfield, Wellington and Blundell’s School. Further schooling can be found in West Dorset including Sherborne boys & girls Schools, whilst Exeter University is recognised as one of the best universities in the country.

The popular town of Lyme Regis is just 9.5 miles away and is a gem of a fishing town with its literary and artistic connections. It has a wide range of shops, galleries, restaurants and pubs. There is fresh seafood available at Mark Hix Oyster and Fish house overlooking the beach, which has an excellent reputation. For other well-regarded eateries, the River Cottage HQ is approximately 9.6 miles away and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Canteen is based in nearby Axminster.

East Devon is renowned for its beauty and ample opportunity for a range of outdoor pursuits. The resort of Sidmouth on the Jurassic Coast, with its Regency seafront esplanade and interesting variety of shops and cafes, is only 8.2 miles away. There is ample opportunity for walking on the South West Coast Path which passes through Beer, and is England’s longest waymarked long-distance footpath and a National Trail. It stretches for 630 miles, running from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

As well as the Jurassic Coast, there are sailing opportunities from the Axe Yacht Club, Seaton and Beer Sailing Clubs. For the golfing enthusiast there are courses at Seaton, Lyme Regis, Honiton, Sidmouth and Woodbury. There is racing at Taunton, Wincanton, Exeter and Newton Abbot, whilst the Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks are also within easy reach. Intercity high speed trains operate from Axminster and Exeter St David’s to London Paddington, the midlands and the north of England, and via Salisbury to London Waterloo. There are also an increasing number of flights to UK and international destinations from Exeter International Airport, approximately 16.8 miles away, including a route to London City Airport with daily flights taking less than an hour.

Mount View has two parking spaces outside of the property.
