Jonathan Booth yields some Suzuka winter barley

Suzuka winter barley has yielded very well at Jonathan Booth’s Ranby Hall, Market Rasen, Lincs.

The 10ha (25 acres) grown as seed yielded 10.2t/ha (4.1t/acre), well above average.

However, the 101ha (250 acres) of Castille rape has been variable, ranging from 3-4.9t/ha (1.25-2t/acre). With 40ha (100 acres) still to cut, Mr Booth reckoned it was averaging 4.3t/ha (1.75t/acre).

The 243ha (600 acres) of Oakley, Humber, Istabraq, Sahara and Emerald wheat was still about a week away, he said. “It’s looking very promising.”
