Wissington Route Grinds to Halt
Farmers taking beet to the British Sugar factory at Wissington are being particularly affected by the closure of one lane of the heavily used A17 as a result of maintenance work on Sutton Bridge.
The work started in September and is not due for completion until December. Adrian Howell of Proctor Brothers, which farms 5000 acres in the area, said:
“We are trying to move potatoes from the east side of the bridge to our grading plant on the west side and each round trip is taking us half an hour longer than usual. Our vehicles are having to force their way into the long queues of traffic.”
