Man trampled by cattle has serious injuries

A man has been seriously injured after he was trampled by herd of cattle on common land in Cambridgeshire.

The 60-year-old man was found lying in the field near St Neots at 7.30pm on Monday 26 August.

It is believed he was walking his dog through the herd of cows and calves when the incident took place.

The East of England Ambulance Service said a critical care paramedic, an ambulance and a response car attended the scene.

The man is now being treated for “significant injuries” in the specialist trauma centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

The common land is grazed by cattle belonging to farmer Chris Wisson, who lives some distance away and was alerted to the incident by emergency services.

“As far as anybody knows there was a gentleman there walking his dog in a field with cows and calves,” Mr Wisson told the Huntingdon News and Crier newspaper.

“Nobody knows what happened except the gentleman involved. All we can do is wish him a speedy recovery.

“We had to go down and make sure the field was secure. The cows seemed fine, perfectly calm,” Mr Wisson added.
