MORE THAN 100 UK dairy producers running grass-based systems are being sought by Genus Breeding to participate in a new grassland genetics programme, progeny testing young sires.
These producers will be offered selected test bull semen to help evaluate up-and-coming new sires, explains Genus ABS regional sales director Ian Hildon. As a reward, they will receive regular discounts on proven sires suitable for low input systems.
“The programme will enable more accurate evaluation and targeting of exactly the right kind of genetics.
“We are specifically selecting for exceptional female fertility, average body size, zero angularity and body condition, high milk components, legs and feet and well attached, long-lasting udders,” he adds.
