Almost 2,100 finished lambs went under the hammer on Thursday (8 November), with trade similar to the previous week. Overall, they averaged 155.86p/kg, with the day’s top price of 163p/kg paid for lambs in the 36.5-43kg bracket. “The majority of the lambs on offer continue to be heavy lambs, with very few handy weight lambs available,” said auctioneer Glyn Owens.


He auctioned 764 heavy lambs – heavier than 48.5kg, with prime-quality sorts averaging 148.45p/kg, and the best topping at £81.20/head. In the 43.5-48kg bracket, 844 head averaged 155.18p/kg for prime quality, with a peak of 160p/kg. “Ewe trade was more difficult, with more sheep being marketed nationally,” said Mr Owens. Overall, 446 cull ewes averaged £52.51 and topped at £80.
