Supermarkets to face another Competition Commission investigation?

The government is considering another investigation into the power of the supermarkets, according to a report in The Observer.

The paper reported on Sunday (Sept 26) that a spokesman for competition minister Gerry Sutcliffe had admitted that the minister may order the Competition Commission to re-open an investigation.

It reported that the Department of Trade and Industry is due to make a statement early next year on the issue.

The statement will examine whether the power of the retailers is harming suppliers and independent businesses.
