AHDB holds events to help dairy farmers face volatility
Dairy farmers in northern England are being urged to understand their cost structures to assess the impact future volatility will have on their business and future plans.
AHDB Dairy has said recent market volatility has made running a dairy business “even more challenging” and urges farmers to attend a series of meetings to help future-proof operations.
The meetings are jointly run between global banking giant HSBC and the AHDB and will help producers assess how their business structure and finances can be better managed.

At the meetings, an HSBC agricultural director will explain the importance of knowing cost of production on short-term cashflow for medium and long-term profitability.
Gordan Whitford, HSBC regional agricultural director, said: “All dairy farmers need to understand their own costs of production in order that they can fully assess the impact of volatility within the dairy industry on their future business plans.”
Chris Gooderham, AHDB Dairy lead analyst will examine the UK, EU and global dairy markets and how they could be affected by Brexit, at the meetings.
Mr Gooderham said: “With under two years to prepare for Brexit and market volatility here to stay these meetings are a way we can help farmers plan for the future in a post-Brexit world.”
To book a place, farmers should contact the AHDB Dairy KE Events hub on 01904 771 216 or email ke.events@ahdb.org.uk.
