BCMS exercise aids error solving

THE BRITISH Cattle Movement Service‘s statement checking exercise helped resolve around half a million movement problems on the cattle tracing database.

The Rural Payments Agency has said the exercise also helped BCMS to record 66,000 newly reported deaths.

Around 70,000 farmers returned the paper statements to BCMS when asked to take part in a checking exercise in February.

BCMS said it hoped that farmers will continue to check their cattle statements which will be sent out on a quarterly basis to help farmers keep their records up-to-date.

The cattle statement system was designed to improve customer service by offering cattle farmers feedback on the transactions they report to the BCMS.

It is hoped that as a result of ironing out errors on the database, the RPA will be able to speed up payment of livestock subsidies.
