TRACES of 57 pesticides have been found in fruit salads, including some suspected of causing cancer, reports the Daily Express.

Environmentalists and scientists have warned that individually each pesticide could pose a risk, and no one knows the “chemical cocktail” effect of being exposed to several at once.

The newspaper says a government study, revealed by Friends of the Earth, found four pesticides on the same sample of strawberries, and eight on the same sample of grapes.

The ministry of agriculture said there was no health risk and the National Farmers Union said pesticide residues were within safety limits.
