AHDB offers £32,000 salary for beef and lamb board role

The search is on for someone to sit on the board of AHDB and chair the organisation’s beef and lamb sector, following the resignation of Hertfordshire farmer Stuart Roberts in August.

AHDB is seeking applications for the role which it estimates will take 104 days a year and offers a salary of £32,000.

“The new board member of AHDB will contribute ideas and be jointly responsible for ensuring that AHDB is a resilient and high-performing body,” said the job advert.

“In addition, the successful candidate will chair the beef and lamb sector advisory board, and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the beef and lamb sector, including current issues facing the industry.

“You will have a real passion for the beef and lamb industry in England and a desire to ensure that levy payers get the best value for money from AHDB.”

Mr Roberts stepped down from the post after less than six months in the job, revealing he was frustrated at the way Defra tried to influence how levy payers’ money should be spent.

This sparked a debate among farmers and industry bodies about whether the organisation was prioritising spending in the right areas.

AHDB has responded by inviting farmers to contribute to an ongoing review of its activities.
