Dam of Japanese cloned calves dies

THE cow that gave birth prematurely on Sunday to twin calves cloned from its cells by Japanese scientists, has died of undetermined causes.

A post-mortem is taking place.

Another four adult cows impregnated with embryos from the same cloning process are reported to be in good condition.

The cloning process is the same as that which created Dolly the sheep in Britain.
