Even better seed

SUPERMARKET demands for better skin finish in potatoes have prompted one seed house to produce a premium seed grade.

Seed quality has a major influence on the level of skin disease in the final crop, says Stephen Hole of Pseedco. "Our premium standard seed could save the cost of applying chemicals for control of black scurf, or help secure acceptance by supermarkets." The gulf between supermarket and bag prices more than justifies the extra £20/t, he says.
