Geneticist calls for GM ‘third way’

By FWi staff

A LEADING geneticist has called for a third way in incorporating both genetically modified and organic crops to feed the worlds growing population.

MF Swaminathan, who is credited as being the father of Indias green revolution, called on governments to adopt people-friendly farming methods.

He told a conference at the John Innes Centre in Norwich on Wednesday (18 April) that GM crops can co-exist alongside organic systems, reports The Guardian.

Prof Swaminathan is developing mixed GM and organic farming methods at his institute near Calcutta.
