GM giant plays down its size
JUST how big is biotech giant Monsanto? According to Ann Foster, Monsantos UK director of public and government affairs, the companys global turnover, including that of its pharmaceutical sector, is less than one-third that of Tesco. In fact, it is much more equivalent to that of the UK Post Office.
"But theres no doubt that we are a big player," she told members of the Scottish Society for Crop Research at their annual meeting last week. "If there is to be continued improvement in commercial varieties, then there needs to be investment." *
