Growth hormones discovered in beef

AUSTRIAS consumer protection minister, Barbara Prammer, has urged the Austrian public not to eat any beef products, such as sausages, following the seizure of a consignment of beef from the country that was found to contain traces of illegal growth hormones.

According to reports 80t of contaminated beef was impounded near Rome by Italian officials.

Whether or not beef products sold in Austria were affected had yet to be determined, she added. Until then, she warned Austrian consumers not to eat any beef products. Fresh beef, however, did not pose any risk.
