High pulse standards
DESPITE the wettest harvest since 1958 crops entered in the 2001 pulse contest still achieved a high standard, says the British Edible Pulse Association.
Winner of the Maviga Cup for best human consumption beans was Wadsley Bros of Thorney, Peterborough with a sample of Victor. The Cebeco Challenge Cup for large blue peas was won by E Whitfield of the Delph, Spalding, Lincs with Elan and R A Smith of Rayleigh, Essex won the marrowfat class with Maro. Farm Care (Essex) of Radwinter, Essex won the best yellow/white pea with Jackpot. *
