Long-term worries
LONG-TERM storage prospects are a concern for many potato crops, particularly on heavy land.
Paul Chatterton, a crop consultant with Digby * Machin, Pock-lington, suggests 20-30% of York-shire crops are now at a stage where storage should not be considered.
The problem is worst on heavier ground where it has been impossible to maintain a full spray programme, leading to serious patches of blight in crops. *
