Meat wholesalers warn on hygiene costs
MEAT wholesalers in Scotland have warned the government about extra meat hygiene bills in the pipeline as a result of costs being transferred from the Treasury.
UK costs are estimated to be £21 million, of which Scotlands contribution should be £6m, reports The Herald.
The additional charges are for the supervision of the removal of BSE-risk material from beef carcasses, the cost of which has been borne by the Treasury since 1996.
