ORGANIC promotion body the Soil Association has criticised the biotechnology industrys proposed measures for the introduction of genetically modified crops.

Association director Patrick Holden said it was totally unacceptable for the government to allow the cross-industry promotion body SCIMAC to set the rules.

"How can the government appoint an industry body to devise a scheme and then police it when it has a vested interest in seeing GMs introduced. It is particularly galling when the most recent straw polls show consumers and farmers alike are concerned about the possible impact of GM crops," he said. &#42
